Information Collected
Search Queries
When a name, location, or other search term is entered into a third-party search box, that information is sent to the provider that operates the tool. Norfolk City Inmate Population does not control that provider's records, prices, account requirements, or privacy practices.
Contact Messages
If a visitor sends a message to the site, the message may include a name, email address, and whatever details the visitor chooses to provide. Do not send Social Security numbers, medical details, payment-card numbers, passwords, or information that belongs only in an official jail, court, or attorney-client channel.
Technical Data and Cookies
Basic technical data may be collected automatically, such as browser type, device type, referring page, pages viewed, approximate location derived from an IP address, and time of visit. Cookies or similar tools may help the site measure traffic, remember preferences, improve performance, detect abuse, and support advertising or analytics.
How Information Is Used
Information may be used to operate the site, respond to messages, maintain security, understand which pages are useful, fix technical issues, limit spam or misuse, and improve local reference content. Search queries sent to outside providers may be used by those providers under their own terms.
Public-record references on this site are based on sources such as Virginia FOIA, Virginia Code 2.2-3700 and 2.2-3704, law-enforcement record rules in Virginia Code 2.2-3706, official jail and court pages, and other public sources. This privacy notice does not change any right or limit that applies to official public records held by a government office.
When Data Is Shared
Information may be shared with vendors that help run the site, including hosting providers, analytics services, advertising networks, email or form providers, security tools, and search partners. Those vendors may process data only as needed for their role, subject to their own policies and contracts.
Information also may be disclosed if required by subpoena, court order, law-enforcement demand, legal process, fraud investigation, security response, or a good-faith need to protect rights, property, safety, or site operations.
Outside Links
The site links to official and non-official resources, including the Norfolk Sheriff's Office, Virginia court systems, VADOC, BOP, ICE ODLS, Virginia VINE, and third-party search tools. Once a visitor follows an outside link, that site controls its own privacy practices, data collection, retention, pricing, and account rules.
Security
Reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards are used to protect information handled by the site. No website, network, email system, or form can be guaranteed perfectly secure. Visitors should avoid sending sensitive personal, financial, medical, or legal information through general web forms.
Children and Minors
This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. If a parent or guardian believes a minor has provided personal information through this site, they may use the contact page to request review or deletion where practical.
Your Choices
Visitors may disable cookies in their browser, avoid third-party search tools, leave the site before submitting a form, or ask that a message they sent to this site be deleted when retention is not required for security, legal, or operational reasons. Official jail, court, FOIA, VADOC, BOP, ICE, and Virginia VINE records must be corrected or requested through the office or system that maintains them.
Updates
This privacy notice may be changed as site features, vendors, laws, or public-record practices change. The updated notice applies when it is posted on this page.
